Thank you for your comment and your insight. I was just so tired of some of the "drama" that came along with SL. I've always been a bit of a rebel...didn't mean to offend anyone, but I gotta be true to me. Some days are better than others, but you hit it on the head...I may not like my SL everyday, but I love the "get up and go". Much love!Beautifully Made!https://www.blogger.com/profile/17261488816415328474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8348797363914709351.post-76043655834655627812010-08-08T12:17:59.332-05:002010-08-08T12:17:59.332-05:00Anyway - on to the question of loving those locs. ...Anyway - on to the question of loving those locs. I did not always love mine. They're just over a year old now and I didn't start loving them until 9 months in or so. I hated the scalpy straggly look - but I promised myself I would give it a year before doing anything (take down/big chop/whateva) and I'm glad I did because locking of any kind takes time and you probably won't always like the way it LOOKS although you'll be happy you can just 'get up and go' (most days).

SLs are 'low maintenance' (lol) when compared to a RELAXER. I also blogged about this on my spot. If like you (and me) you were natural for a while and accustomed to doing your own hair in your own time - this business of going to a consultant and spending all this money on your hair can feel completely foreign. I find that not many SLers/SL consultants seem to understand that. So more power to you for taking matters into your own hands.

I will also say that I have noticed wherever I go in cyberspace - there is always a bit of 'hate' towards SLers and it is tiresome. Not all SLers are the same, not all of us think we're 'better' than ppl who haven't paid through their noses for some skinny locs, not all of us have stinky or snobby attitudes. Some of us just love natural hair and locs and wanted the particular look this method would give us. Just saying. ...Very interesting read: I had to add my 2 cents.
I like SL very much, but I cannot afford them at this time, but I will not say they are expensive, just too much for "My Income Bracket".
I am currently growing my 2nd set of locks, and this time I went with Braidlocks. I braided my hair up and retighten every few months. After 4-5 months in, I didn't like the look of it, so I added human hair ext. braided it onto my already braided hair. {Click my name to see my pics on my blog} I kept the ext. in for 2 years, and took them down back in May. My hair is now long enough for a ponytail, which is all I need in this hot weather!
As for the woman who told you that you no longer have SL if you maintain them on your own... Who the hell is she?! Love your hair, and do what you like with it!
The Queen has spoken.
Take careQueenLihttp://queenlilocjourney.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8348797363914709351.post-51472970644083808612010-07-28T00:00:14.627-05:002010-07-28T00:00:14.627-05:00I appreciate your comment Felicia. Of course not, because that's foolish!!! YOU paid for your locks!! YOU can call them whatever you want to!!!! really detest snobby attitudes!!Enjoy the beauty of your natural hair and don't let people, no matter who they are, allow you to get caught up in their opinions of your locks!! I totally understand your feelings. Unless your consultant is willing to do them for you for free-then be free to do YOU!!!! BTW your locks are gorgeous!! Focus on educating young minds and enjoy your beautiful locks!!Feliciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11421044444427549715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8348797363914709351.post-68623932335407224182010-07-25T21:57:51.532-05:002010-07-25T21:57:51.532-05:00@Lush Locs I'm gonna give it a year. Although I'm enjoying my journey, it can be challenging. I don't love my hair everyday but most days, I'm happy with it. I maintain with the nappylock tool also. If anybody asks, I tell them I have Sisterlocks because that's what I paid for initially. If Sisterlocks Inc. has a problem with me saying that, then I will change to microlocs. I enjoy having the freedom to maintain my own hair. I did it for years with two-strand twists. BTW your baby's hair is gorgeous. I think committing to another year is a good idea. You will know for sure by that time and you will have no regrets. As far as the partings, I wonder if over time the parts shift because mine seem to have moved.Lush Locshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12321826948738806242noreply@blogger.com
